Scale force is classed as the highest waterfall in the Lakes, at around 170ft high in total, it is hidden in a deep gorge on the northern side of Red Pike. The waterfall lies at the foot of Buttermere lake and Crummock water. A peaceful natural area that has spectacular views of Grasmoor and beyond. From the main car park at Buttermere there is a signpost for Scale Force, head along that path. Soon you will come to a stone bridge crossing Buttermere Dubs, cross over then head right towards Crummock Water.
The walk to the falls is best started from Buttermere car park. From here the falls are around 2.5 miles away. They are sign posted but it is wise to have a map or other means navigation.
