Hodge Close is a large quarry with dramatic craggy sheer drops and stunning views. It is strangely beautiful in its own unique way.  The quarry was used to extract slate for many years up until the 1960s. The place almost has an eerie mysterious feel to it, but exciting all the same. With steep cliffs over 140 feet high and very few fences, extreme caution is needed. It is popular among climbers and divers. The Flooded quarry is over 100 feet deep.

There are some great mountain biking trails and walking loops in the area that can be explored. A description of a local walk is in the link on the right.

There is free parking at the quarry, but to get to it you have to follow a narrow lane for around a mile. Car park grid ref: NY315016

You can also park at Tiberthwaite quarry car park and walk/bike from here, postcode LA21 8DG for satnav; Grid reference NY306009
