This remarkable Mountain is the largest and on one side overlooks the Wasdale valley where Englands deepest lake Wastwater also lies. The Mountain stands at 3,209 feet tall, it was first recorded in 1578 under the name Skallfield, then named Scawfell for many years. The first recorded summit was in 1802 by the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, he wrote a letter to the love of his life at the summit.
There are four main routes up Scafell Pike. They follow these valleys: Wasdale Head, Borrowdale, Great Langdale and Eskdale. The shortest way up is from Wasdale Head over in the west of the Lakes, around 2.4 miles to the summit, here there is parking and public toilets
